#experiencewithoutboundaries

A 2021 graduate of our Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP), Log G has given himself a measurable edge in today’s fiercely competitive job market by earning bachelor’s degrees in two disciplines. His BEng in Computer Science and BBA in Business Administration ultimately proved very attractive for leading IT consultancy, PALO IT, who employed him as IT Consultant upon his graduation.

Passionately interested in both innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit needed to actualize ideas into working realities, Log G found his five-year dual degree program to be the ideal springboard for a career in IT and eventually launching his own start-ups.

At every stage of his studies, Log G was delighted to meet – and be motivated by – fellow students who shared his determination to excel in technology, business and their own chosen specialist interests.

Keen to make maximum use of every second of his time at university, Log G seized the many opportunities his highly regarded Technology and Management (TEMG) course offered him to explore, innovate and achieve. Sharpening his business and technical skills, Log G’s participation in structured projects with tech and business leaders such as Google and UBS are just two of many excellent examples.

By the time he reached his second year, Log G had developed the level of confidence needed to establish several start-ups either by himself or in conjunction with like-minded classmates. Chief among these on-campus projects was an initiative called XMOTION. Leveraging cutting edge facial recognition technologies to address the increasingly urgent issue of student suicides, XMOTION earned HK$20,000 worth of Robotics & AI funding in HKUST-SINO’s One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition. The initiative also achieved a Top 10 Team Worldwide honorable ranking in the 2018 Microsoft Imagine Cup’s Big Idea Challenge.

In Log G’s final year, he and his fellow visionaries pioneered an AI-based system called READily that helped time-poor tutors to streamline the setting of questions in English comprehension tests.  The project was so well received it ended up winning the coveted AI & FinTech theme Championship at Hong Kong Techathon 2022 and will continue to compete for many other prestigious accolades as it moves forward.

When not hard at work perfecting his latest breakthrough, Log G is a gifted musician. Having served as Rehearsal Conductor of “Festive Chamber Choir” since 2016, he continues to join his fellow choristers in spreading seasonal joy all over Hong Kong each Christmas.

“What most impressed me and my fellow students about HKUST’s T&M-DDP was the fact that the faculties and staff involved really cared about us, students, and our opinions. They also worked tirelessly at identifying exposure opportunities and putting us in touch with useful business and alumni contacts.

“Anything I have achieved by this point is the result of countless failures.  I would recommend anyone to fail fast and fail often if you wish to enjoy sustained and meaningful success!”
