IPO organized a team building program at Ocean Park on Feb 11 to bring together 35 students from different majors and foster their team spirit and collaboration.

The day began with icebreaking games to get the students acquainted. Students were then divided into 3 groups to complete 3 tasks designed to enhance students’ problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills. In the first task, each group was asked to choose their favourite seafood dishes, without knowing the sustainability level of their choices will affect the difficulty in the next task: transporting balls through pipes. It is a fun and educational experience that get the students to work and coordinate with each other, with a hint of consuming sustainable seafood.

Another task challenged students’ observation skills and knowledge about the nature. They walked through the rainforest exhibit and tried to memorize the facts of rainforest and animals. Each group then stood on mat pieces symbolizing animal habitats in the wild. They had to protect their habitats by answering the questions correctly as one piece of mat would be taken away with each wrong answer. This task helped strengthen the students’ bonding  and encouraged them to be more attentive to the natural surroundings.

The final task was assembling hydropower building models. While some parts were buried in the sand, some had to be collected by inter-team and intra-team exchange, the task enhanced collaboration across different teams and highlighted how much more can be achieved collectively than individually.

After finishing the tasks, students enjoyed lunch in Ocean Park and had the opportunity to experience the Park’s many rides and attractions. It was a fun and enjoyable experience for them to make new friends and bond over shared experiences.
